Lucy and Sable strike a pose at the Millie Bush Bark Park several years ago. Lucy and Sable were inseparable. The best thing that I ever did for Lucy was to get Sable. They made great companions. Unlike Joe and Sable, which don't seem to care much for one another.
I don't understand when pet owners encourage their dog to get another dog's ball. I sure don't blame the dog. I understand if the ball is not in play. I've done it myself. But when someone knows that they came to the park with no balls and they witness someone, aka me, throw a ball, yet walk off with said ball to another part of the park, it annoys me.
I guess I shouldn't complain over a 25 cent tennis ball but...
If I happen to wake up early, I love taking the kids to the dog park at dawn. It's my favorite time of day in the cooler months and is the only time to be outside in the summer here in the gulf coast area.
I'm always surprised more aren't there to beat the heat but I guess they don't mind
But once the sun is up, it doesn't take long for tongues to start hanging low and for me to wipe sweat. Then we know that it's time to go home.
I kid. I was watching in disbelief as this guy walked out in the water trying to get his dog to swim. That won't work. I took Lucy and Sable to the park for almost a year before Sable ever got in the water to swim. Then one day I look up and she's out in the middle. At any rate, this guys out there in the water and I can't make myself go get a pedicure for fear of toe nail fungus or hepatitis. lol
There was a nice breeze and the humidity was lower than usual making for a very nice early morning.
Many of the dogs just stay at waters edge getting their paws wet.
My girls always loved to ride. I suppose all dogs love it unless the only time they ride is to the vet. We took many Sunday afternoon rides and explored all the new homes in our area as they were under construction. Lucy and Sable left many muddy paw prints on those new floors years ago.
I know that it is hard to believe living in Texas but I never ate a barbecue rib till about 2000 when I took my Father on a vacation to Arizona to visit relatives. My uncle was smoking pork ribs while we were there. Everyone at the time raved about them but I wasn't impressed. They seemed messy and not much meat for the effort. Flash forward to 2005 when said relatives were visiting from Arizona. I thought I'd feed them barbecue ribs since Texas is known for barbecue. When I went to the restaurant, I didn't remember or know if I wanted beef or pork ribs so I got both. I had both my girls by this time. I learned that the beef rib, aka dinosaur bone, was a great treat for the dogs and I also learned that beef ribs are not that popular or available at most restaurants.
I'm still not a fan of ribs but I get the beef ribs for the babies. Yes, I gnaw at the meat and sauce but they get the most joy and benefit out of them.
The vet always says that their teeth are so clean. I think it's the bones they enjoy 3 or 4 times a year.
