My Girls

Despite the 90 degree temperatures, Lucy and Sable were enjoying the gusty winds and overcast sky. They look up in the trees as the wind blows. I wonder if they think squirrels will fall or pecans? They like both so I'll just keep speculating.

Typically Hot Afternoon In Pawm Springs

Since I neglected to take my girls to the park over the weekend I thought I'd make it up to them today since I got off early. It was 90 degrees today and they always love the water no matter what the temperature.
I'm amazed at how many dogs are afraid of the water. They might come to the waters edge but that is it. Then again, Sable waited almost a year to venture out and swim.

Lucy has always loved the water. The vet chastised me for taking her to the dog park when she was less than 3 months old. I had read about the Millie Bush Bark Park in the paper and thought I'd take her. She immediately loved it.

Neither seem as fond of this Pawm Springs Dog Park here in Sugar Land as they are of the Millie Bush park. They are apprehensive at first around the water because it drops off about two feet just beyond the waters edge. It amuses me that they remember that aspect of the pond at this park. But in the long run, water is water and they enjoyed themselves. Plus they can watch the other dogs from a distance.

And Just Where Have You Been All Night?

Lucy seems to always be outside when I get up in the morning. As soon as I sit at the table, she comes inside acting like a guilty teenager that's been out all night.

Oh Sure It Looks Precious

I love these home magazines that show the family pet lounging on the furniture. But they don't show the staff that's got to be around cleaning and straightening after having big dogs in the house. My home has never been the same since I got my two girls. When I was younger I was called "nasty nice" just shy of neurotic when it comes to house cleaning. Guys would say my condo looked like an old maids place or women would say that it didn't look like a bachelor pad. Granted it's my fault that I have pets that I let get on the furniture. It was so darn cute when they were puppies though. Now having a pet door where they can come and go has only added to the problems. If we are in a dry spell the dust is horrific. If we are having rainy days they track in mud. Sure I have gates up that keep them at bay and that's another issue. I have a gate between the tile area to the wood floor/living area and another gate between living areas to hallway/bedrooms. It's like a day care.
Don't get me wrong. I wouldn't take anything in exchange for my girls. Then again if you had told me ten years ago that I would have two 75 pound dogs in my home I would have scoffed. Granted much at issue is my fault. But when photos of homes all perfect with a big long hair dog are shown I know it's all an illusion, precious as it might appear.

I Hate To Admit It But...

they are better at keeping their eyes on the road than I am. Watch out!

A Conversation?

Sable:I think the neighbors are cooking out today!
Lucy:I know. It's pure torture.

Most Obstinate Of All Dogs

With the temperatures finally below the 90 degree mark and lower humidity during the day my girls are venturing out more. Well, if I venture out they do. I was having flashbacks from 7 years ago when I first got Lucy as I watched her move several times and each time planting herself on my boarders of lirope. The grass is not good enough? When she was just 2 months old she preferred beds of hostas or periwinkle. She still seems to take great pleasure in her total disregard for me and my plants.

Off To Millie Bush Bark Park We Go

I woke up early this past Sunday. With few people out that time of day and the multitude of stop lights we encounter, it is the best time to make the 15 mile trek to Millie Bush Bark Park.
We pass by the Sugar Land airport along the way as some private jets fuel up at predawn.

It doesn't take my girls long to dive in the water once we are there. I almost joined them. The mosquitoes were sooooooo bad when we first arrived just before the sun come up. My legs were covered. It was torture! I ask others that were there at that time if they had been bothered and they'd say "no not really". What gives? What can I say? Mosquitoes and bees are always attracted to me. I guess because we had had thunderstorms the night before but I had never had a problem early in the morning of all the times we've been there.

Enough about poor, poor pitiful you and your bites. Throw the darn ball!

My Lucy poses for me.

My little water buffaloes do love the water. Their hair is always so soft after swimming. Even after a quick shower before leaving. Do you think that blue dye in the water is actually conditioner?

Millie Bush offers two large ponds as opposed to the small one at Pawm Springs Dog park here in Sugar Land.

It's so strange to see Sable as the most successful one getting the ball most every time now. For almost a year, when I first started taking them to the park Sable would only stand at the water's edge and wait for Lucy to come back with the ball then Lucy would pass it off to her. One day I was looking off and then I noticed Sable out in the middle with Lucy. I was shocked! Of course, I didn't have my camera that day.

Unfortunately, my girls are limping a bit after about 25 times of retrieving the ball and running back around the pond to me. But I guess they would stay for hours before finally resting if I didn't leave.

As usual, they like watching all the other dogs from a distance. Well I have finally stopped scratching from all the bites and they have stopped limping so a full recovery by all. I hope you're having great fall days in your area.

P Uuuuuuuuuuu:Your Butt Dink!

That's what my brothers, who are 10 & 12 years older than me, used to tell me when I was a kid. After seeing this picture of Lucy and Sable, it made me think of that. Sable can be a little gassy at times.
