A New Adventure

I took my girls to the San Jacinto Monument and Battlegrounds State Park this week. It was a lovely day and one of our last cool days with low humidity which we all love.

The San Jacinto Monument is quite beautiful against a clear blue sky. Surprisingly, there weren't many people there in the middle of the week. Perhaps more will visit after schools are out.

The Battleship Texas is open for tours daily. Sadly, no dogs allowed.

Lucy and Sable loved being at waters edge but didn't know what to think of the reeds they had to make their way through. They didn't seem to notice the Fred Hartman Bridge that spans the Houston Ship Channel in the distance either. Oh well. They had a great time but had to have a bath when we got home after several brushings to get all the burrs out of their hair. We hope you have some fun adventures this holiday weekend and summer.

Millie Bush Bark Park Opens Again

After the heavy rains of April flooded the Barker Reservoir, our favorite dog park was under water and gates closed. We were happy to be able to go and find them open yesterday. Although it was a cloudy day and had rained a bit before we got there the girls and I had a great time. The temperature had cooled down drastically which we LOVE.

So they got to swim and chase the ball.

Sable likes meeting new friends. She's not afraid to look them straight in the eye and tell them she likes them.

You get to see funny things happen while at the park. This little fella, isn't he a pit bull, was terrified of the other dogs. He was so cute.

Especially when he jumped up in this lady's lap when the other dog started chasing him. She couldn't keep from laughing even if it was a wet dog. The dogs owner quickly pulled him down off the lady.

This Time She Was Outnumbered

As I have said in previous posts, my Lucy is quite protective of me and Sable while at the dog park. She likes to stand guard as I sit on a bench or under one of the pavilions. She will bark and growl as people and dogs walk by. How can I meet other dog owners with a dog like that? If someone has the courage to stop and sit near by she might warm up to them but really, who wants to be around a wet, long haired dog that seems to take pleasure in shaking in front of you.

But she met her match when this pack of dogs come around to "our" side of the lake. She didn't seem to know what to think of the great Dane that was a couple feet taller than her. She kindly let them sniff and pass.

Full Moon And Boredom

It's A First

Lucy and Sable got to meet my great nephew yesterday when my niece gave us a surprise visit. It was the first time for them being around a baby. They didn't really know what to think. Sable kept trying to lick him and Lucy just sniffed then went and sat down by herself not understanding what all the commotion was about. I don't think I like the idea of big dogs around a baby. But they were on good behavior and he got a good case of the giggles.

Have You Heard?

Have you heard that it's bad for your pets to ride with their heads out the window? I understand the flying debris/safety issue but have you heard that it can eventually cause cataracts? I was just wondering. My girls love to have the window down. Although, I never get on the freeway or drive at a high rate of speed for any length of time with the window down.

It's Getting Hot Outside

My girls are just a huffing and a puffing. It's only May and hitting 90 degrees and Lucy and Sable don't like it. They don't even follow me around in the yard now. They usually do their gender proud and love to watch a man work around the house and yard but not for now. Sable has resorted to just peeking out the pet door. At least Lucy will come out and laugh at me sweating. Oh well. It will be cooler in October.

No Dog Park For My Girls

Sadly due to the heavy rains we got here in the Houston area the last 3 weeks, our play ground is under water. It is part of the Barker Cypress Reservoir and as you can see in the photo above it is not receding as fast as Lucy and Sable would like. Since we do not have a boat we will stick to neighborhood walks.
