On The Road

Me and my girls are on vacation this week and headed to the Ozark Mountains to see my father. Hopefully the weather will cooperate with us. The area has already had a bit of snow for Christmas but this week is to be a bit warmer. We shall see. In the meantime, we hope all of you stay warm and dry this holiday week. Happy New Year!

My Girls Waiting For Santa

What was that Lucy? Did you hear Santa on the roof? "I need new tennis balls!"
Sable's getting bored it seems. She's tired of hearing about Santa and Christmas.

Wish List

I want to get my girls new collars for Christmas but I have seen ZILCH in the pet stores. I can't use the snap kind. They sometimes get hold of each other by the collar and have unsnapped them in the past. So I need the buckle and pin type. I like the brown turquoise for Lucy and the red collar for Sable. Sometimes I'm hesitant ordering on line when it has a utilitarian aspect because I've had such bad luck when something has to work in some way. We'll see.

It's Her Way

My Sable lets me know when it is time to go home from the park. Everytime I walk up to get the ball. She starts working her way back to the parking lot until I've eventually followed her to the gate. Sneaky!

That would be a little drafty.

Christmas Spirit?

My girls actually mixing with others? What's Up with that? Must be the Christmas spirit?

Fire!

With a blast of cold air, it seemed appropriate to have a fire in our small pit. The girls enjoy the cold but weren't too impressed with my fire making skills.

Why did you disturb me?

A Cold Morning At Millie Bush

I woke up early yesterday morning so I thought I'd take the girls to Millie Bush Bark Park. They like it better than the park closer to home. One reason is the gradual slope into the water where as the park here in Sugar Land just drops off a foot or so. I usually take them to this park early for two reasons:to beat the traffic and the heat. Since we are in a cold snap the avoidance of traffic was the motivation.
We were the first to arrive just after 7:00 am and I thought they might hesitate to get in the water. But I was wrong. They headed directly for the water. I noticed when others started to arrive they weren't getting in the water?

It looked as if icicles were forming on Lucy when she emerged from the water.

I like the way my girls play together at the park since they rarely do at home. Sable pushes Lucy around and around in circles to get the ball out of her mouth.

What kind of children have I raised? They are content at just watching the others from across the pond. I don't go to the far side of the water to avoid the crowds but for my best camera angle if the sun should show it self. Maybe I'm giving them the wrong message?

Several had arrived by 8:00 am but some only took one loop around the trail and left. It was just too cold for them. One thing is always certain. If it's cold in southeast Texas there's a north wind kicking up. Otherwise, the warmth from the Gulf would ease back inland.
Hope you had a good weekend!

A Blustery Day At Pawm Springs

I was so glad that the clouds and humidity were finally blowing out this week I had to take my Dad, his dog Joe, and my girls, to the dog park.
It was a bit cool with 40 mph wind gusts, especially for my 97 year old Father. I couldn't find him a spot to avoid the wind chill. I eventually had to walk him back to the truck while Joe and the girls enjoyed the fresh air.

Joe found dogs that would run him which he loves. My girls aren't chasing no darn dog. I've raised them right. ;)

Lucy and Sable didn't mind the cold wind and didn't hesitate to get in the water.

We saw some new pals at the park. I don't know their breed but Lucy And Sable seemed to be amused by them. Now my girls will want long hair.

Joe The Terrible

Joe, my father's dog, arrived for the holidays a couple of weeks ago. He has a rather menacing look about him. He's quite gentle but... He won't stop humping my girls: although he's supposedly fixed. Plus, he is so long legged that he gets things off the counter with ease, for example a roast I left out to thaw and a bag of cookies.
Tempers often flair when family gathers for the holidays.

However, Lucy remains nonplussed by all the goings on. Really, Joe is just a tad intimidated by Lucy. I mean she is the queen of the house.

Doggy Doldrums

The warm weather is back. My girls dislike the heat and humidity as much as I do. It seems to zap our energy. Cooler weather is on the way sources say, even if it's just for a couple of days. We'll take it.

They Like A Good Bone

My girls love beef ribs. Now there are lots of barbeque establishments all over Houston but few offer beef ribs. I don't really care for any type of rib, barbeque or otherwise, so this is mostly for their enjoyment. Sable is the most excited. Not sure if it's the smell of the sauce or the fat and meat that I leave behind that she enjoys more.
Lucy is more lady like and will just lick her lips at first glance.

Soon they are down to the marrow and the excitement has lessoned.

All I hear is the steady gnawing of the bone which is kind of relaxing really. Oh and the vet always compliments them on how clean their teeth look. Another benefit of this splurge on their behalf.

Who's Been Sleeping In My Bed?

Actually, I don't let my girls sleep with me that often. Only on the coldest of nights do they have that luxury which in southeast Texas isn't very often. I think I'm entitled to one dust and hair free zone in my home. Don't you think? But Sable does like to lay on the bed and watch me choose my clothes and get dressed. Who wouldn't? lol They don't really pout or whine when I close the gate behind me down the hall and go to bed. But with long work days, it seems that is the only way I can have more time with them if I let them sleep with me.
Lucy can leave the bed and I never know it during a good nights sleep. But Sable, on the other hand, is a different story. I wake up with her looking down at me which creeps me out to be honest. She's constantly scooting a little closer to me which actually feels pretty good to my back on a cold night. Or if she gets hungry, she is not beyond head butting me and rolling me out of bed. Who gets the munches in the middle of the night? I don't know who she takes that after????

In Search Of A Cool Spot:Some Things Never Change

Here's my three month old Lucy doing what dogs love to do. She just wants a cool spot to lay down in.
I never thought one dog and eventually two could change the landscape so dramatically.

Now almost seven and a half years later nothing has changed but my yard. Still just wanting a cool place to lay down.

Happiness is truly a cool bed.
