Some lucky pooch is cooling off at the Gus Wortham Memorial fountain in downtown Houston. I hope you keep cool this weekend.
Another little sneak peak....

Living In Canine Country
Once again over the weekend the girls and I left the house in the dark to get to the park before sunrise. Just 30 minutes after the sun has come up we are all panting. At least Pawm Springs had the pond filled back up and open but the water was no way cool. Still Lucy and Sable don't miss a beat to get in the water. Stupid me left my Chuck It at the gate on our last visit to the park. This is the third one I have left at the dog park either when giving them a bath upon leaving or when I'm putting their leashes on when we're leaving. You'd think I'd learn by now.
My girls like watching the other dogs and their owners from across the pond but not too fond of being in the mix. Sable, my Lab mix, is quite the social creature yet she prefers to stay close to Lucy. Lucy seems nervous with a lot of dogs around. That was the point in taking them to the park in the first place as puppies, to get them to interact with the others. I was taking Lucy before I got Sable still she's a loner. Like a parent watching their children and wanting them to have friends and fun I feel as though I have failed some how. Maybe they are just being like me. I tend to gravitate to one side of the water every time I go but I tell myself it's because the early morning sun will be to my back.
Finally, my girls got to go for a swim. We made the trek to MBBP before the break of dawn yesterday. It was great that the park employees had opened the gates so early. We have had to wait on them in the past to open the parking lot entrance.
My girls had to be content with running and sniffing the dew soaked grass at Pawm Springs Dog Park earlier this week. I got up extra early to get to the park at or before sunrise to beat the heat and give the girls a chance to swim. But so much for my efforts.
When we arrived this is what we found. In a park that has been open for less than a year they had the pond/lake closed for maintenance. What do they say about the best laid plans? It does look as if the grass is finally growing. Of course, we are sometimes the only ones there when we go so no wonder.
