Sunrise At Pawm Springs

I feel as though I have been neglecting my canine family since my father's been living with me.

So I packed up the the pooches and my father and went to the Pawm Springs Dog Park located in the Sugar Land Memorial Park. I tried to round them all up and get there by sunrise for we are still having quite warm days in the mid 90's and not very cool evenings.

Lucy and Sable are definitely slowing down as they age and getting arthritic in their hips. It doesn't help that my father is constantly feeding them something. I feel bad scolding him but damn. They were already overweight before he came to live with me.

At any rate, they seem to have a good time. Lucy and Sable love the water and Joe stayed close by for a change. But there's a reason for that.

No other dogs were at the park for Joe to chase. I thought that strange especially as it got later and later. Well, I soon learned why. I realized Sable's collar came off when time to leave and attempted to put her leash on. I manage to get them and my dad loaded up and told myself I would just go back later and look for it. When I did go back the gates were locked and I noticed signs saying the park is closed on Monday for maintenance. So that's why no other dogs showed up and that's why city of Sugar Land trucks kept coming and circling the park while we were there. We got there before they did to lock the gates. Well, I'm glad I didn't see the sign for I would have been really PISSED if after all the effort to get there we had to turn around and come back home.

My father didn't seem to care much one way or the other about the park. He's willing to go but he reserves the right to take a nap while there. I guess that's okay when you're 97.

Not hardly. They are just tired out and willing to tolerate one another for a spot on the sofa.

That's alright. Daddy didn't want to lay on the sofa and watch TV.

My baby Sable loves to sit on my lap (she's only 80 + pounds) while I watch TV. I think she watches the reflection in my glasses. She just looks at me which creeps me out at times.

Begging Runs In The Family

Sable's brother Spike likes to wait for handouts too. I had dinner at my brothers over the weekend which gave me the opportunity to see Spike. He's a good natured pooch just like my Sable. Thankfully, he's not as fat as Sable. He stands several inches taller than Sable too.

Thankfully, many shelters can accommodate family pets.

But so much livestock have suffered or perished due to the drought, extreme heat, and wildfires.

Joe Continues To Get An Earfull

Lucy does not like it when Joe paws at her like a cat or tries to mount her. And in this case, Lucy does not like to see Joe bother Sable in any way which seems strange because Lucy has never shown much affection towards Sable. Nevertheless, Lucy always lets him know that his behavior is unacceptable. But will he ever learn?

Sable Watches As Joe Kicks Up Some Dust

Have I told you how dry it is in Texas? I can't believe I have much grass left in the back yard with little or no rain since February, with August having 30 days of over 100 degree temps, and with Joe running circles. Alas, the temps have dropped especially in the evening and unfortunately for all the fires so has the humidity.

Eye On The Prize

Lucy has to keep her bone in her mouth at all times for fear of her thieving sister Sable. It doesn't take Sable long to whittle a 12 inch beef rib down to pencil size while it takes Lucy and Joe a couple of days.
