The Shunning Of Sable

My sweet girl does not have mange.  I don't know how many times that I've had to say that at the dog park since Sable developed this skin condition.  People act as if she is contagious.  They will ask "what's wrong with her?"  Moreover, the dog park is similar to Hollywood: people seem to like 'em young and beautiful.  I've heard people say, "now stay away from the seniors".lol  It's all about puppies at the park.
Sable had her annual last week.  The blood test reveal that her thyroid is in check.  She sure acts as if she feels good and has a good appetite as always but her hair has not come back after grooming last summer.  I suppose if she is energetic that is a good sign.

Back To The Vet

Well, I am going to have to take my Sable back to the vet.  Her skin issues is just as it was over a year ago when she was first diagnosed with the thyroid condition.  The prescriptions and "special" shampoo is not doing any good.  Her hair did come back almost 95% earlier in the year, however, after her last grooming her hair did not come back except on her legs, hind side, and a few patches here and there.  She seems in good spirits and is active as ever but I hate for her to look like this.

Joe's Annual

Joe had his annual visit to the vet this week.  Sir Barks A Lot is such a good dog in many ways and being examined by the vet is no different.  He doesn't put up a fuss of any kind.  I think he likes the attention.  What a strange fella.  My father had a Dalmatian before Joe and she would be shaking in the car when my Dad drove up to the vet's office.  Lucy and Sable have never been good patients at the vet so Joe, it seems, is the exception.

Patiently Waiting

Sable went for her annual shots last week.  She had only gained 2 pounds over the holidays.  I'm trying to keep up with her thyroid medicine.  But hey, I can't remember to take a daily vitamin so it's a struggle to give her her pills twice a day every 12 hours.  Most of her hair has come back quite nicely but some areas are more stubborn.  I don't know if I will get her groomed again or at least not a "puppy cut" for summer.  I just give her a bath at home.  She's pretty good about it.

Sable's Follow Up

Sable looks to me for comfort as we wait for the vet.
Sable's blood work numbers looked better with a 4 pound weight loss.  My $$$ numbers didn't look so good but when there are positive and visible results it's worth it.
It was unpleasant being in the room where I said good bye to Lucy.
On the way home, we decided to celebrate Sable's weight loss at Sonic.  Okay, it was my decision but...

The Waiting Game

I took Lucy and Joe to the vet for their annual visit last week.  They quickly moved us to a room when a guy arrived with two pit bulls.
Joe was curious at all the happenings beyond the door.
I told them to be good and it would all be over soon.  I admit that was a lie.
 Well?
Yeah?  What's up with that?  We're being good.
One reason I don't have a big screen TV or a new sofa or....   The price for two and their meds.  Don't forget Sable too.  Anything I can do to keep those payments up on my vet's Range Rover.

The Waiting Game

Lucy and Joe both got to visit the vet for their annuals.
They could hear cats in the other room which was pure torture for them.
And then Lucy had to whisper in Joe's ear what the vet was going to do to him.  Thanks a lot Lucy. Geez!

What A Pain

Sable has an ear infection. She's had them before. I always know when she starts shaking her head. So now we are on the routine of ear wash and ear drops twice a day for two weeks. She is so smart when she sees me reach for the bottles she runs outside. And the real kicker, while struggling with Sable Lucy came up and nipped me on the back side. WHAT? I can't believe she would think I would harm Sable or either of them. It seems like Lucy done that to me before when I had to wrestle Sable to give her medicine. See how fast they turn?
At any rate, the vet trip cost $162. Is that typical in your area for office visit, express anal glands, check ear for bacterial infection, plus meds?????

Sable's Annual Visit

Where are they? They're just outside this door. Why won't they come in and get this over.
It's like this everytime you make an appointment. I don't know why you bother. Don't they realize I have fences to run and birds to chase?

I don't like this at all.

Oh oh oh oh that tickles!

Now say ahhhhhhhhh.

Ouch! I don't want to give blood.

Okay. I will take that treat now.

I'm ready to go home master.
