Some Vacation

I was off last week and took the kids to the Ozarks for the daunting task of cleaning out my parents home for an auction next month.  What an overwhelming job it was for me and my brother.  Sadly, Joe and Sable were neglected much of the time.  Even more sad, they weren't much help.   Joe loved being in his ole big backyard and ran the fence barking what seemed non stop.  Poor Sable was under the hydrangeas or honeysuckle looking for a cool spot much of the time.  Sable did not care for all the steps to climb. But they enjoyed all the people that came around while we were there.
On our trip back, Sable gave up the position of co captain and let Joe keep his eyes on the road for a change.  In the end, we were all glad to get back home and get some rest.

The Saddest Of Road Trips

As always, poor Sable could not relax but had to keep her eye on the road for much of the ride.
We did have beautiful clear skies from Houston to just north of Hope, AR but then we ran into storms.
Joe enjoyed the stops at the rest areas along the way.
I did not enjoy sitting in the traffic on I30 due to construction.
The purpose of our trip was to take my Father to the Ozark mountains to his final resting place.  He passed away last week at the age of 98.  He would have been 99 next month and looked forward to being 100 like a child looks forward to being a teenager.  Dad and Joe come to live with me 3 years ago after his bout of pneumonia.  I can't say that I have started to grieve as of yet.  I sure missed him when he fell and first had to go to the hospital back in late March. Now I am kind of numb.  Joe seems to know what has happened and has been in a blue mood.  Perhaps he knows that we are both orphans now?

We Survived Vacation And 2010!

My girls love to ride almost as much as swimming. They are good travelers. We stop usually three times on an eleven hour drive.
Sable stays front and center almost the entire trip every time.

I don't think she trusts my driving. I don't know how she does it? I look at her and her eyes will get heavy and then she snaps back to life. She lays down maybe 30 minutes or so out of the entire trip where as Lucy, once the excitement is over, is sacked out.

Hey! Who cut the cheese? Oh yeah right, who is she kidding?

Ahhhhhh! Fresh Air

My girls were good as always on our recent trip to Arkansas. They loved the cold weather, so so frisky. I rarely let the window down for them when I'm driving on speed since I have read it is bad for their eyes. But they do love it.
Sable set up looking out the window as though she is the copilot for at least 9 hours of our 11 hour drive. She makes me tired. Her eyes would get so heavy. Maybe she doesn't trust my driving? Lucy, on the other hand, kicked back and was snoring within a couple of hours into the trip and only raised up when I would slow down or stop
They will both be 6 years old in 2009. I can't believe it. And I still find it hard to believe I'm sharing my home and my ride with two big dogs. If you would have told me such 10 years ago I would have told you, in no uncertain terms, you were full of it. So I'm cautious when asked if I will ever get another dog.

On The Road Again

The girls as we leave Houston last Monday morning for our trip to Arkansas.
