Before and After

Before When I got my girls five years ago I had one of those full view glass doors. Soon I realized I didn't want Lucy, my first dog, to stay outside all day nor did I want her to have to stay inside for a 13 plus hour day. So I had to modify the door to put in a pet door and I've never regretted it. When I got Sable, the black lab, she just followed Lucy in and out. I would close them off in this partioned area and they could go outside or stay inside in the cage or by the door.
But they prefer the air conditioning I assure you. At any rate, Sable unlike Lucy was a wood chewer and managed to destroy most of the molding on the door and on the frame. Well Sable has been with me five years this Christmas and I CAN NOT believe it's taken me this long to take the door down and put new molding up and repaint the door. It's been one of those things I've intended to do for some time. Hopefully, she's past the wood chewing stage. After

Helpful Hint

I've found a lot of so-called helpful hints on line and many seem bogus or at least they don't work for me. But in this case I was very pleased to learn that latex gloves work great at raking up pet hair off carpet (in this case my truck) and upholstery. The most discouraging thing as a pet owner has been keeping things as clean as I once did. I don't think I was neurotic before but maybe. I'm not quite sure. But between dust, I have a pet door and they come in and out a multitude of times a day, and pet hair from my Golden it's easy to be overwhelmed. So I was pleased to learn of this tip and how easy it makes vacuuming now. Try it out and let me know what you think.

If It's Cool Enough

Lucy can rest anywhere.

Meanwhile

While we wait to get a new fence up (the old one was downed by hurricane Ike) Lucy keeps a close eye on the neighbors dog.

Steppin Out

If I had a dollar for every time my girls go in and out this pet door I could bail out a few banks myself.

Cooler Weather Brings Privileges

With the days getting a bit cooler, the girls are riding with me more often as I run errands. The mid day sun is still much too hot for them to be in a parked car for any length of time though. But when I got out of my truck the other day this lady was telling me that it gives dogs cataracts to ride with their head out the window. Damn. Always something or someone raining on my parade. I never get on the freeway at high rates of speed with the window down but driving around Sugar Land less than 50 mph much of the time hopefully is no harm to them.

A Couple Of Nosey Parkers

The girls love this temporary fence. As of yet, they haven't made any attempts to get out but they do love waiting for the neighbors or their dogs to come outside.
