As If

Ralph Lauren makes life look so beautiful, even life with dogs. My Lucy would have those pillows shredded in a heart beat. Not to mention the little chew toy. Oh that's a real dog? Sorry. She's not that mean. Honestly, I don't think either of my girls would lay under there.

Happy Easter!

From me and my girls, Lucy and Sable.

Lucy Helps With Saturday Chores

Her help is essential in maintaining the lustre of my leather chair. It feels just like the rich and soft Corithian leather in my old Chrysler Cordoba. Ricardo Montalban would be so proud. lol

The Secret To Having A Successful Barbeque

Lucy plays hostess by keeping an eye out for guests coming through the gate.
A good initial fire.
Hot coals.
But my secret is that Sable does such a good job cleaning the grill the food never sticks.

Big Day At The Park

The girls and I enjoyed an afternoon at the park this week. Our area has had an episode of low humidity which made it very pleasant to be outside earlier this week.
Lucy and Sable enjoy a good run till it gets too warm and then there's no way.
They prefer the water. It's hard to believe that no one else was at the park while we were there. Maybe people see my truck and keep going knowing how friendly Lucy can be?
When there are other dogs at the park I am surprised at how many of them do not care for the water.
Although Sable was timid for a few months as a puppy eventually she loved the water as much as Lucy.
Lucy was zonked by the time we made the short 5 mile trip home from Pawm Springs.
Have a great weekend!

Lucy Is 8 Years Old Today!

My pretty guard dog turned 8 today. It would have slipped my mine had the vet not sent me a reminder. I always think her birthday is in late June when she came to live with me. Lucy is a survivor of the parvo virus. Lucy was hospitalized at the vet when my brother was taking one of his newly purchased pups from Petsmart to the vet. His dog died from the disease. The vet pointed out Lucy and how she had survivied the disease. But my brother's daughter did not want a large dog. So I had casually mentioned I was looking into getting a dog and he remembered. Lucky me huh? He called me while I was on vacation in Colorado in 2003 and told me the story about Lucy. How the vet had her papers of her pure breed and that they were wanting a good home for her. So the rest is history. Lucy is a rather petite version of a Golden Retriever which could be a result of the parvo virus. She's been a healthy and happy girl just not very affectionate. Happy Birthday to you Lucy!

When Canines Are Caregivers

Hey! Wake up! What's wrong with you?
Snap out of it! You've been dreaming about your life without dogs again.
How many paws do I have up?
Let me check your pulse. Your hearts racing.
I think you'll be okay. It was just a bad dream.
Chill out Lucy. He gets like that after drinking Bacardi and Coke.

Someone To Look Up To

It takes a lot of responsibility to be a pet owner. My girls are always looking for guidance. When I get frustrated all they have to do is look at me with those eyes and all is well.
Have a great weekend with the ones you love!

Dogs & Slipcovers

They go hand in hand around my place. Since I've done upholstery for several years, I've tackled making slipcovers since becoming a pet owner. Sewing has always been my least favorite aspect of upholstery so I've usually resorted to just using an old bedspread or sheet thrown over the sofa or chairs. Of course all of this could have been avoided if I'd just kept my girls off the furniture. So when I see photos like this one it motivates me to get sewing. But why is the dog on a hard floor when it could be in a comfy chair? I'll never understand.
