Monday Memories

Lucy was just a pup here and before I got her trained on leash.  Afterwards, she was so good on leash and NEVER pulled ahead. My sweet Lucy always got lots of ooohs and ahhhs at the park.  Of course, I've noticed that all Golden's do.

Houston's Newest Dog Park Opens

The Johnny Steele Dog Park in downtown Houston opened Saturday January 17, 2015 with thousands in attendance on it's first day.

The spring like weather after weeks of cloudy skies and rain was most welcome.
The park has two large bodies of water for the pooches to cool off in during Houston's hot summer months.
But temperatures in the low 60's yesterday seemed a warm enough reason to take a dip.
All the local news outlets were there to report on the festivities.
There was even a canine fashion show for those that didn't care to get their paws wet.

I probably won't ever take Joe and Sable to the park but I can imagine how happy residents inside the loop must be to have such an awesome facility on Buffalo Bayou just off Allen Parkway.  Especially all the apartment dwellers with dogs now have a place close to let their pets off leash.  The dog park is named after Houston's landscape architect and is part of the overall park plan along the Buffalo Bayou.

Monday Memories

Lucy tries to give my Dad's dog, Lady, a kiss in November of 2003.  My Dad got a lab soon after I left home and it was his companion for almost 14 years.  When he died my Dad was so hurt, according to my late Mother.  So in a couple of years, my brother gave my Dad a Dalmatian.  My Dad named her Lady because strangely enough my brothers had a Dalmatian before I came along and it was also named Lady.  So Lady II was up in years by the time I got Lucy in 2003.  She didn't know what to think when she visited and there was another dog already here.  Lady was a talker.  I wish we had videos of her because she loved to try and talk.  She seemed to be scolding us people on numerous occasions.  Lady was a good dog, aren't they all?, for my Dad and he was once again heartbroken when she would die the next year in 2004.  But soon my Dad would be gifted Joe by a stranger.

Monday Memories

I miss my door greeter with the big smile and wagging tail.
